TIGH’N ALLUIS – Irish Sweat House
Ireland has a very old tradition of sweat houses called ‘TIGH ‘N ALLUIS’, meaning ‘houses of sweat.’
Traditionally built in the form of a beehive hut and made of dry stone walls, covered in clay and turf. The ‘houses’ were a known treatment of all kind of illnesses including rheumatism and common colds.
Here at TIGH’N ALLUIS we have created a healing space for people with an open mind and a willingness to learn through holistic modalities. We are introducing a mix of Irish mythology and snippets of Shamanism, which incorporates old techniques used by the Irish and other worldwide ethnic groups.
Using the four elements to heal the soul (Fire, Water, Air & Earth), our sauna experience encompasses all four elements!
*Fire is the energy source within the stove and the creator of the heat.
*Water is used to create the steam which is essentially the spirit of the sauna.
*Earth is the sauna stones and timber which are heated to imitate the womb and energy.
*Air being the oxygen the sauna uses to breathe and help the fire.
Our intention, which is our priority, is to help and to heal. We don't pretend to be healers or Shamans but we do come with their ethics and willingness to facilitate healing.
We also aim to give our clients the best holistic experience on offer. We are in the process of buying a Mongolian Yurt which will also be a "sauna temple" for a deeper connection and sauna experience. We will be also offering Yoga and Meditation classes in our new area very soon.
Some very exciting times ahead.
Looking forward to sharing them with you all.
GRÁ MÓR,
Peter & Karl Priestley.
