Arabic Calligraphy Workshop

Introduction to Arabic Calligraphy Workshop, Facilitated by Artist Diaa Lagan.

Arabic calligraphy is the artistic practice of the written word. It is known in Arabic as ‘khatt’, from the word meaning 'line'. Originally a tool for communication, with time, it began to be used in architecture, decoration and in other elements of design.

Participants will be introduced to the practice of calligraphy, and to the concept of decorative writing. They will learn how to pronounce some of the Arabic letters, and be invited to practise the techniques of forming letters by using a bamboo quill and tracing paper, then learn to write their own name in Arabic.
